It’s been almost 100 days since people in Kashmir lived a normal life, after the Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani was killed in an strategically planned encounter by the Indian army on July 8th. His death created chaos in the entire valley with people pelting stones and taking action against the Indian security forces.

Despite being a militant and a threat for the nation, Burhan Wani was immensely popular among the Kashmiris due to his social media activities, weather it was defaming the Indian govt or posting pictures with AK-47 and other deadly weapons, he turned out to be a prominent face for the youth in Kashmir.

Opting to become a militant at the age of 15, and later turning out to become a militant sympathizer Burhan Wani was a sensation and thus the India government had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 million for finding Burhan.

He was reportedly killed in a strategically planned operation by the Indian Army on July 8th and the aftermath of his killing witnessed something like never before.  His funeral saw more than 50,000 people gathering,including many young militants pouring from Pakistan to show love for their leader. Other extremist leaders were also present in the funeral. His body was then wrapped in the Flag on Pakistan and was buried next to his brother Khalid.

Besides everyone knowing the fact that he was a terrorist, many intellectuals and prominent faces stood out in support of him labeling him as a “Martyr“, a “Young leader” and what not!

Journalist Sagarika Ghose, with her husband Rajdeep Sardesai were recently seen throwing some light and opinion in support of Burhan Wani and demeaning the Indian Army for its action against him, at an event in Georgetown University, USA.
