“I will sweep the floor if I have to, but give me a job so that I can lead a life of dignity,” these were very painful words coming from the widow of a soldier who was called the Siachen braveheart.
Life has not been easy for Mahadevi Koppad since her husband and Siachen braveheart Hanumanthappa Koppad passed away in 2016. The last one year has been a tumultuous one for the single mother whose eyes tear up each time her three-year-old little girl points to Hanumanthappa’s photographs and says Appa.
The young single mother pleaded for a job so she can live a dignified life. “I want a job to take care of myself and my child. I have not asked for anything specific, I will sweep the floor if I have to, but give me a job is all I ask. Seeing this lady who is the wife of a braveheart and a martyr Smriti Irani showed a real gesture by fulfilling her request.
Textiles minister Smriti Irani has sent Mahadevi, wife of Siachen braveheart Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, an offer letter for a job through Central Silk Board, according to a member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
In February last year, Hanumanthappa was miraculously found alive after having remained buried under 35 feet of snow for several days after an avalanche had struck his post at Siachen Glacier. He was admitted to the hospital after rescue but died one day later.
