The Global Positioning System or GPS is what defines navigation not just in India but also around the world. But come July, and the GPS will be pipped by India’s very own IRNSS (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System), at least in Indian mobile devices for starters.
It has been reported that ISRO is set to hold a meeting on the 13th of December, which will comprise of members from the navigation technology sector and Global Information System (GIS). It will also be attended by mobile phone and navigation device manufacturers. Senior scientists from the Space Application Centre (SAC, Ahmedabad) are also expected at this convention. The primary objective of this meeting is to shine light on the advantages of IRNSS over the GPS.
