An extraordinary example of women empowerment has been set by the women of Jharkhand, India. They are known as Tablet Didis of Jharkhand, having kids in their laps and tablets in their hands. To record the financial activities of their Self Help Groups (SHGs), these women are operating tablets, who have never seen or touched cell phones.
Tablets have become their identity, are known for them in their village and adjacent areas. “Once this device was just a wonder to me but now it has become my strength”– quoted by one of the women, who uses tablet. The lady said-“I m now the Tablet Didi of my village”. These women belong to the remotest villages of Jharkhand.
Breaking the social taboos of society these women have worked as the change-makers. Under Livelihood Mission, after joining SHG these women have came out of poverty, who were once poverty-ridden. They are playing a significant role in eliminating poverty in Jharkhand, capturing data and transactions of each meeting of SHGs.
Anyone can check the details of any SHG meeting of any remote village of Jharkhand on exact time as a result of the hardwork and dedication of these women. “You can do anything if you believe in it”– has been proved by these ladies with their great work which needs to be applauded. Most of these women are the only earner of their houses and earn their livelihood through this work.
This initiative taken in Jharkhand, seeks to eliminate poverty and encourage economic and social growth and fills the gaps in the path of Digital India. Through this, rural women would gain new skills and capacities that enables them to open new avenues of livelihood. It will bring about a positive change in the society.
